From just another place for snacks and dedicated to the British public, to a gastronomic category restaurant both national and Mediterranean and local.
Mr. Bep's, as we know it today, was born in 1998 when Paco Domínguez and his wife, Laura García, decided to start their own catering business. This year marks 25 years since the beginning of an evolution that would take place until today. And that still continues. "We try to overcome ourselves day after day", affirms Domínguez.
A couple who had a long career and great experience in the world of catering and hospitality, wanted to create a quality and familiar gastronomic place. After evolving and growing, this dream is already a reality. "We have been making improvements and implementing changes little by little. without running Now we have to hold on."
Located in one of the most hidden places in the urbanization of Cala en Blanes, it started offering the same type of service as before. When the couple decided to acquire it, this business had already been in operation for a decade, so the changes in the business approach came gradually. They started out as a bar/restaurant offering British-style snacks and lunches. And little by little they made a transformation to target a more local audience.
"In the long run, when we were more established, and we had the opportunity, we started preparing national dishes, which was what we really liked to cook and offer". García, who stands out for his hand in the kitchen, began to have more freedom in it, preparing the dishes he had known all his life, while learning new ones. Like the caldereta, so typical of the island. Or the rice dishes of all kinds which, in reality, are their specialty. We find a clear tribute to Menorcan, Mediterranean and Extremadura cuisine, the region of origin of the marriage.
The menu, which presents reasonable prices and in line with the quality on offer, has dishes such as Galician octopus or a portion of Iberian ham with garlic as starters; the Iberian feather of aglà or the entrecote grilled or with pepper sauce, in the meat section; or grilled cuttlefish and grilled Mediterranean squid, in the sea section. Not forgetting more culinary or informal tapas to enjoy a more carefree evening. Several typical and well-known dishes, Mr. drink
But it not only stands out for its regional and local menu, but also offers great expertise in wine or, as Domínguez says, in grapes. "I've always liked the world of wine, I've done several courses, tastings, wine routes around the peninsula... and we've transferred everything to Mr. Drink it." In this sense, and this year as part of the anniversary of more than two decades, the place will surely hold a celebration related to some wine and gastronomic tasting. We will have to stay tuned to find out more.
