The GOB Menorca, through the Agrarian Custody program, organizes a course on Agroforestry on April 18 from 10:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the Ferrerias Auditorium to bring this technique closer to people who wish to make a profit from forest areas. .
To do this, there will be experts in the field Alain Canet, agronomist and vice president of the National Center of Agroécologie, who will bring us closer to the world of Agroforestry and edible forests, and Félix Noblia, farmer and expert in environmental externalities, will talk to us about agriculture, climate and voluntary carbon capture credits.
Forest areas have grown in recent decades, both in Menorca and the rest of Europe, partly thanks to the progressive abandonment of old crop areas, which has facilitated this natural process. Even so, there are ways to produce food within these forested spaces without having to give up having these recent forests. In this sense, Agroforestry allows the incorporation of some agricultural productions within bush and forest areas.
This course is a great opportunity to learn the benefits of agroforestry systems: at an environmental level, they can help restore habitats, protect biodiversity, maintain fertile soil and natural pest control; At an economic level, they allow the diversification of production, the economic viability of areas of high landscape value or the transfer of income to other sectors, including the professional agricultural sector.
The course has a price of €22 for the general public and €12 for farms within the Agrarian Custody program. Prior registration is required, available through the following means:
