Beekeeping is a specialization of livestock farming that consists of raising the Apis mellifera bee by man in order to exploit the products of the hive. The beekeeper must provide the swarm with shelter, take care of it: supplementary feeding, disease control, be careful with pesticides, artificial fertilization of queens, etc. Part of the honey they produce is collected, ensuring that they do not run out to get through the winter.
The most traditional products collected from bees were honey and wax.
Propolis, already used in ancient Egypt, has become very common and with new applications in relatively few years.
The same can be said of royal jelly or fresh pollen, collected before the bees enter the hive and process it.
Menorcan honey stands out for its quality and delicacy. The varied flora found in the countryside and the influence of the sea and the salinity of the island's environment give it quite particular organoleptic characteristics.
