Ca n’Aguedet and Sagitario Hotels win the Joan Gomila Borràs Award

Ca n’Aguedet and the family business group Sagitario Hotels have won ex aequo and unanimously the 2023 Joan Gomila Borràs Prize in tourism. The president of the Menorca Island Council, Adolfo Vilafranca, presented the award, which amounts to 2,500 euros for each of the winners.

This year the jury has been formalized by the president of the Insular Consell; Maria Antonia Taltavull, Minister of Economy and General Services; Begoña Mercadal, island director of Tourism Promotion; and, on behalf of the Menorca Tourism Promotion Foundation (FFTM), José Seguí, Marcos Carreras and Gabriel Pons.

“The Ca n’Aguedet project helps people at risk of exclusion and supports Menorcan gastronomy and tourism with a training program. And the Sagitario Hotels business group is an example of excellence and track record in the field of tourism,” explained the president of the Menorca Island Council.

On November 29, 2016, the agreement was signed between Fomento del Turismo de Menorca and the Consell Insular de Menorca creating the Joan Gomila Borràs Award, an agreement endowed with an initial contribution of funds of 70,000 euros, fully participated by the FFTM. The award allows, on the one hand, to recognize the work of its first president and, on the other, to extend the recognition to all the people who, for years, kept the Promotion of Tourism in Menorca alive and, with it, a tourism promotion of excellent quality of our island. For this reason, the first edition of this award, in 2017, rewarded the long career within the tourism sector of our island of Emili de Balanzó.

This award is convened by the Consell Insular de Menorca to recognize the effort and dedication of the people, companies, entities and professionals who have contributed with their work or proposals for the future, to the improvement towards excellence in the sector, without forgetting their responsibility with society and the environment.

The last major objective of the established award is to give public recognition to any person, entity, organization or company that has worked or works to promote Menorca for tourism, an activity related to the objectives of the Tourism Promotion department of the Consell Insular de Menorca and the Menorca Tourism Promotion Foundation.
