Forty-four denominations of origin will be present at the 10th Menorca Wine Show

This Wednesday at noon, a new edition of the Mostra De Vins Menorca, the biggest and most important meeting with the world of wine that takes place on the island and which returns with more enthusiasm, was presented at a press conference at the Club Marítim de Maó than ever to celebrate its tenth anniversary next Monday, April 8. An appointment that aspires to once again become the best showcase to discover the most outstanding novelties of the different denominations of origin of local, national and international wine at this biannual fair promoted by the De Vins Menorca company from year 2002. An exhibition aimed at hospitality professionals, lovers of the world of wine, foodies and all those people related to wine culture that promises to become a party and that this year will bring one hundred and fifteen wineries to Menorca which will be distributed among the seventy-five tables that will be installed and which will cover up to forty-four different denominations of origin.

A singularity that will make this one of the editions organized by De Vins Menorca, which presents more novelties both in terms of the number of new wineries and the wines, cavas and champagnes that will be announced and that will exceed the 600 threshold. "We are very excited because it is ten editions where we have been able to see the progression of the number of wineries that attend the Mostra as well as the audience and it has been spectacular, consolidating the fair as the best meeting point for the world of wine in Menorca" he explained Dani Boix, manager and owner of De Vins Menorca. "Each wine producer who will participate will take a little piece of Menorca with them, as this year we will give them a piece of S'Algendar cheese that they have made specifically for the tenth anniversary of the Mostra" confirmed Boix. The same Club Marítim de Maó will again be the stage where the fair will take place, which will open its doors intermittently from 10:30 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the evening. Around 200 professionals are expected to attend and the number of accredited people at the moment exceeds 500 people between residents and visitors.

The Menorcan pavilion will be represented by six wineries with Torralbenc and Pouch d'Alaior, Binifadet de Sant Lluís, Son Cremat de Maó, Sa Forana de Sant Climent and Torralba de Ciutadella. The event is supported for the second time in a row by the Menorca Tourism Promotion Foundation. The Insular Director of Tourism, Begoña Mercadal explained that the gastronomy of Menorca and in particular, the wine produced here is enjoying a good moment and that events like this help to energize the restaurant and wine sector, contributing to positioning the Island as a place where things happen all year round.

Menorca Wine Award Delivery

Didier Belondrade
A few days before the Mostra De Vins Menorca, on Thursday 4 April the Menorca Wines Award will be presented, an award that was born two years ago now to recognize the unique career of people or wineries that have stood out for their contribution of value to the world of wine and which in its first edition was received by Carles Esteva of the Can Ràfols dels Caus winery. This year's winner was Didier Belondrade, creator of one of the best white wines in Spain and owner of prestigious Belondrade y Lurton winery in the Rueda area that will receive a bottle-shaped ullaster wood sculpture, a joint creation of Menorcan designer HombreLopez and carpenter Bep Camps from Ciutadella.

The story of BELONDRADE began thirty years ago when the founder Didier Belondrade, a passionate Frenchman of our country who had worked as a manager of Air France, discovers for the first time the landscape of Rueda, its soils and the native variety of this area: the Verdejo grape. Convinced of the ability of this variety to make great wines, he decided to settle in Nava del Rey to make a Chateau wine in Spain. To fulfill his dream, he acquired vineyards in La Seca, a few kilometers from the Douro River and in the heart of what is known as the "Golden Triangle of Roda" (Valladolid). In 2000, he built a winery that today produces its wines exclusively with grapes from its own vineyard. A pioneer in the way of materializing his dream while doing away from the beginning of the use of pesticides and chemical products until obtaining the ecological seal, he has managed with his different elaborations to mark a before and after in the wine market whites in our country and be present at the best restaurants and gourmet tables.
