Keys to the Food Waste Law: How to extend the useful life of food?

On January 1, 2025, the food loss and waste prevention bill will come into force, establishing the obligation of the producer or distributor to donate food that is in consumer condition. In this sense, the Government has decided to resume this legislative initiative given that each year about 65.5 kilos or liters of food are wasted per person in Spain, according to data from the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food.

When this is not possible, other uses will be sought such as jams, feed or compost, according to the Ministry.
