FITUR closed a new edition on Sunday in which the image of Menorca has experienced, according to the technicians of the Fundació Foment del Turisme, a change in trend. The island has closed a complete calendar with more than 50 events, meetings and appointments to capture the interest not only of the final visitors, but also of the agencies and airlines, among others, in the work of establishing a 9-month season that benefits the entire Island. “Something has changed, last year there were airlines that did not want to meet with us or that did so with obvious signs of little interest, and this year they have been the first to ask us for meetings and to look at how we can collaborate,” explains the director of the Fundació, Begoña Mercadal.
The president of the Island Council, Adolfo Vilafranca, has led a few frenetic days of work accompanied, among others, by the island director of Tourism Promotion, Juana Mari Pons and the director of the Fundació Foment del Turisme, Begoña Mercadal, as well as some of the Fundació's technicians. Mercadal highly values ??the work carried out in all the scenarios, "especially the presentation of Menorca as a destination that filled the room to capacity", as well as the different sporting events that "define Menorca as a benchmark sporting destination for another year".
The Fundació points out that the ties with the United States, which began last year, "have become even more concrete, not only because of our interest but also because of the will of both the agencies and the airlines that see in Menorca a different product with an upward appeal".
Another market that has stepped forward, showing interest in discovering the Menorca that exists beyond summer and the high season, is the Italian market. FITUR was precisely the place to announce a direct flight to Milan-Malpensa from April to October, which joins the new connections between 2025 and 2027 from Lyon, Nantes, Brest, Marseille, Belfast and Bournemouth. “We are working with agencies and companies in Italy because with the data for 2024 we have seen that the Italian market may be interested in the months of April, May and October, as well as June, July and August, which we already know Menorca is a successful destination in Italy,” says Mercadal.
