Sa-Kundi, a duet with cosmopolitan gastronomy

Sa-Kundi, a duet with cosmopolitan gastronomy

The small restaurant Sa-Kundi, in Los Delfines-Cala en Forcat, is a small oasis of cosmopolitan cuisine in Ciutadella and surprises us with a well-prepared cuisine, with exotic touches and impeccable table service.

Sa-Kundi is a restaurant without hired workers, what are called duet restaurants, where saving on personnel costs is not the main motivation for the owners of these gastronomic micro-businesses, which are destined to be a trend, and which in Menorca are not the only case, but their philosophy is to serve well and enjoy the work without being a slave to it.

These types of restaurants are also the “home” of these couples of restaurateurs who divide the tasks between the kitchen and the dining room, organizing proposals and schedules to also guarantee their livelihood, avoiding the headaches derived from human resources management and, in addition, obtaining a good return, without neglecting their quality of life.

That is why Sa-Kundi operates with few tables, with prior reservations and with the philosophy of not taking more diners than necessary, with the aim that everyone leaves satisfied with this experience with their world cuisines.

This small restaurant has its doors open until the end of this February. They will close on March 2 because Sabrina is pregnant, and they will dedicate themselves to their baby all summer, when they will not open, and will return in September to meet with their customers. Freedom or wisdom?

Living a gastronomic experience

Going to Sa-Kundi is going to live a gastronomic experience, it is letting yourself be carried away by Sabrina's recommendations in the dining room and being surprised by the good hand in the elaborate cuisine that Dani prepares for us. Going to Sa-Kundi is experiencing this culinary magic that makes this gastronomic duo work perfectly, with dishes that fuse Italian and Thai cuisine, but with the main focus on the product of Menorca.

We have tasted their homemade nachos, with chickpea hummus, avocado and citrus pic de gallo which are an explosion of flavors and freshness in the mouth, as well as their Japanese-style gyozas, filled with a stir-fried squid and roasted red pepper with sweet chili that takes us to the Japanese country and confirms that Japanese cuisine goes far beyond sushi.

The third starter we tried was a crispy pork belly with homemade hoisin sauce, which fills our mouths with flavours and invites us to discover Thai cuisine.

We continued our experience by sharing -Sa-Kundi is a place for sharing dishes- their laminated red tuna, accompanied by crispy wakame seaweed and homemade rocoto mayonnaise.

Freshness, flavours and exoticism in one dish, with which we gave way to the classic pad thai; rice noodles with sautéed vegetables, homemade tamarind sauce, scrambled egg, peanuts and prawns, which led us to the natural flavours of Thai cuisine, without frills, with genuine flavours and the freshness of local vegetables.

We finished our gastronomic experience with the cod with tamarind, a fried cod, glazed with caramelized tamarind sauce and roasted cashews and one of the star dishes of the house, the Massaman beef cheeks, which are accompanied by sweet potato puree and Massaman curry sauce.

Exoticism, impeccable service, a short but well-structured wine list and, also leave a hole for the desserts that Sabrina makes, like the lemon pie by the glass, which makes our mouths fresh, clean and invites us to come back again and again.
