Sowing figs

There is a popular belief that if the fig tree is not planted in the first days of the new moon, it will take as many years to produce figs as the days that are missing from the new moon. If the fig tree is planted in the first days of the new moon, the following year it will produce figs. This is what those people who were specialists in planting fig trees, and also in grafting good figs on the fig trees, used to say at the time. Some of them had and still have their “professional secrets”.

As for the fig trees, there is a belief that, to plant them, the planting holes must be made in the first days of Holy Week, and they must be planted precisely on Good Thursday or Good Friday, in the certainty that after three years the fig tree will have figs. Some people assure that if they are planted in these conditions the following year the fig tree will bear fruit.
