The 3rd edition of the Mahón-Menorca Cheese Fair grows to 32 exhibitors

The third edition of the Mahón-Menorca Cheese Fair will be held this weekend, from October 18 to 20.

This year the Fair is growing in number of exhibitors and in activities: there will be 32 cheese producers, 25 of which are from Menorca and the other 7 belong to the European Cheese Route, to which the cheese with DO Mahón-Menorca is attached .

In addition, there will also be samples of other local products from Menorca, which will accompany the cheese, such as saffron, wine and beer. The aim is to turn the Fair into a tribute to Menorca's primary sector, as pointed out by the Councilor for Economic Promotion, Susana Salom.

The mayor of Maó, Héctor Pons, recalled that the fair was a project that the City Council of Maó had planned a few years ago and commented that its organization allows the name of the city to be taken around the world. In addition, he was satisfied with the continuity of this sample; and, at the same time, he thanked the Council of Menorca, the Government of the Balearic Islands, the CRDO and the Cooperativa del Camp de Menorca, respectively, for their support.

The Fair is accompanied by other City Council initiatives aimed at increasing the visibility of the primary and productive sector of Maó, which currently has 90 active positions, contrary to what it might seem.

Finally, Pons also wanted to point out that the Fair is held in s'Esplanada, 'since it is the aim of this council to give life to this space and promote medium and long-term projects, to revitalize the square'.

Susana Salom also wanted to emphasize that the 'fair is consolidated, now that it has reached its third edition, and that it is a benchmark for the public of Menorca and for local producers'. In addition, he highlighted the presence of outstanding chefs, such as José M. Borrás and Miquel Calent, who will participate in show cooking at the fair, and musical performances and activities, during the three days, for the little ones, such as storytellers, the presence of Ratetes and ecological horses.

Finally, Salom pointed out that this year the program will be held in 4 languages ??and that there will be special promotion of the Fair at the Airport Tourism Office and at the port of Maó, where the arrival of three tourist cruises is expected, coinciding with the Fair.

The event was also attended by the manager of the Menorca Tourism Promotion Foundation, Begoña Mercadal, who congratulated the City Council on the organization and continuity of this event, as an action that allows the tourist season to be extended.

The president of the Mahón-Menorca Cheese Regulatory Council, Bosco Triay, was also present, who emphasized that 'the City Council believed in it and bet on this Fair from the first moment'; and the president of Sa Cooperativa del Camp de Menorca, David Pons, who pointed out that 'we have a common interest in linking the primary sector and the cheese product with its society'.

The Fair will open this Friday the 18th, at 5:00 p.m., in Plaça de s'Esplanada, and will close on Sunday, at 3:00 p.m.
