The Executive Council of the Consell Insular de Menorca has approved the collaboration agreement between the island administration and the Association of Organic Agriculture Producers of Menorca (APAEM) for the year 2024 with a maximum budget allocation of 32,000 euros.
Organic agricultural production is a production system that respects the environment where it is attempted to economize as much as possible the use of non-renewable resources and that generates, more than any other agricultural production system, environmental agricultural services and public goods for the rest of Menorca. This production system results in quality agri-food products, highly valued by consumers, and therefore with great added value.
“The approval of an agreement with APAEM has a direct economic impact on the Menorcan economy, since with the participation and organization of fairs of organic agricultural products, as well as with the actions of promotion of the products, this product is made known to the Menorcan population and as a consequence the consumption of these products increases, benefiting the producers and processors. For this reason, it is in the interest of this department to collaborate with this sector in order to contribute to the maintenance of its activity and its knowledge”, explains the minister, Maria Antònia Taltavull.
Some of the activities eligible for subsidy are the management, administration and dynamization of the association; training, information and dissemination actions; collaborations and participation spaces; publication of dissemination materials, articles and dissemination content; attendance at fairs and markets; specific support for organic agricultural operators in Menorca; and participation in areas of support for projects of gardens and school canteens, among others.
