The Fira del Camp d’Alaior has put an end to a particularly successful edition, marked by a large influx of public and an outstanding participation in the XXXVII Morphological Competition of Friesian Cattle. The event concluded with the award ceremony, after a day that included the competition of future promises, the parade of honor and the trophy presentation ceremony.
This year’s edition received a visit from the Minister of Agriculture of the Government of the Balearic Islands, Joan Simonet, who toured the different stands of the fair accompanied by the mayor of Alaior, José Luis Benejam. His presence highlighted the importance of this event for the primary sector of Menorca and the Balearic Islands. With more than 10,000 visitors, the fair has met all expectations, generating great satisfaction among both exhibitors and participating livestock farms and farmers, who have had a unique opportunity to show their work. Attendees have been able to enjoy a long-awaited weekend, consolidating the fair as a benchmark for the sector.
The high level of the Friesian Cattle Morphological Competition has been highlighted by experts and judges, who have agreed to value it as a competition of great importance on an international scale. The most outstanding distinctions have been the Grand Champion Cow 1, Torrellafuda Unix Gala, from Torrellafuda (Ciutadella), and the Best Breeder award, which has been for Binillubet, a highly valued award within the livestock sector. International judge Giuseppe Beltramino has highlighted the genetic quality of the animals and the excellent work carried out by local livestock farms, consolidating the fair as a benchmark event.
In addition to the livestock competition, the fair had a varied programme that attracted a large number of visitors. The equestrian show by Quadres Can Siquiat (Alaior) and Sa Creueta (Es Migjorn Gran) was one of the most acclaimed moments by the public. There was also a popular dance with the Grupo Folklòric Tramuntana de Ciutadella, in the area of ??Avinguda del Progrés, and a musical performance by Wanderlust, in the leisure area, thus offering a complete experience for all attendees.
The mayor of Alaior, José Luis Benejam, gave a very positive assessment of the fair: ?We are very happy with the development of this edition. It has been a success for all participants and visitors, who have demonstrated once again the high level of this competition and the livestock farms of Menorca?.
Finally, the Alaior City Council would like to express its gratitude to all municipal workers, the Balearic Frisian Association, the farmers, and all the collaborators and exhibitors who have made this edition of the Fira del Camp possible.
