The Island Council of Menorca will help the town councils of the island in their actions to revitalize open commercial spaces and agri-food and craft markets during the year 2024.

The Council will contribute a total of 108,000 euros, increasing the amount compared to the previous year, which reached 90,000 due to the low level of general execution in 2022. This distribution will be distributed to the different municipalities depending on the number of companies registered in the Social Security referred to the second quarter of 2023. Thus, in this way, 19,500 euros will go to municipalities with more than 500 companies (Ciutadella and Maó); 13,000 euros in municipalities between 275 and 500 companies (Alaior, es Mercadal and Sant Lluís) and 10,000 euros for municipalities with less than 275 companies (Ferreries, es Castell and Es Migjorn).

Thus, trade fairs, craft markets, campaigns to stimulate consumption and the like will be subsidized actions, as long as they value the economy and the local product, as well as entertainment events in public spaces, guided tours of a cultural and touristic nature and similar, as long as they involve revitalizing commercial areas.

"Invigoration and commercial promotion become key and unavoidable factors for the survival of small businesses and to survive the severe impact that globalization and technology have had on traditional forms of production, consumption and exchange. For this reason, the public interest of these instruments of collaboration between the insular and local administration lies in improving the competitive level of Menorca's proximity commercial sector", explains the Minister of Economy and General Services, Maria Antonia Taltavull.

The town councils, as they do every year, will have until February 28, 2025 to present the correct supporting documentation, which accredits a report of the activities carried out with images of the dissemination carried out and a certificate of the intervention of the corporation indicating the expenses incurred and actually paid.
