The Social Welfare Department of the Consell Insular de Menorca will organize this Saturday, December 28, at 12:00 pm in the Cloister of Carme in Maó, an activity to carry out a non-alcoholic cocktail workshop and thus disseminate the campaign to prevent alcohol consumption in adolescents and young people during the Christmas holidays.
For the Social Welfare Department, an important purpose for these holidays is to promote a healthy environment and safe holidays. “The festive atmosphere can favor greater permissiveness towards alcohol consumption and make minors highly exposed, relating consumption to celebration, fun and social connection,” explains the department’s councilor, Carmen Reynés.
“We must be aware that alcohol is a neurotoxic substance that can have an impact on the physical and mental development of adolescents,” explains Reynés.
For this reason, the Department of Social Welfare wants to spread two messages to promote the alcohol-free holiday campaign.
“This Christmas, let's celebrate responsibly and without alcohol, doing what really matters to us: family, friendship and good times together. Adults have the opportunity to set an example, offering healthy alternatives, enjoying an alcohol-free Christmas. Let's not let alcohol be the protagonist.”
“This Christmas, you have the opportunity to enjoy yourself without missing out. Many young people don't drink alcohol and have as much or more fun. If you know what to choose, don't let others do it for you. The best reason not to drink is you!”
