Xoriguer Distilleries kicks off 2025 by participating in Madrid Fusión, the international gastronomy competition that takes place in Madrid between January 27 and 29. The Menorcan firm presents its products at the stand with which the Consell Insular de Menorca promotes the product and local gastronomy.
At Madrid Fusión, professionals and visitors will be able to discover, in addition to traditional liqueurs, such as Camomile, Herbs and Bloody Island, Xoriguer+Xrub, a proposal developed together with Hugo Muñoz, chef of Ugo Chan, winner of a Michelin star, which uses the tradition of shrubs to offer a different way of enjoying a mixed drink.
Shrub, a concentrated syrup made from fruit, vinegar and sugar, which was originally mixed with water to create a refreshing drink, takes its name from the sherbets that were drunk in Turkey and Persia. In the mid-17th century, the renowned shrub began to be mixed with spirits and consumed on ships by sailors and merchants.
Its consumption declined at the end of the 19th century with the arrival of carbonated drinks and the generalisation of food refrigeration systems, which made this way of preserving fruit unnecessary. It was revived at the beginning of this century in the United States, where it has been progressively incorporated into recipes and cocktail menus.
Now, Destilerías Xoriguer, with Gin Xoriguer+Xrub, aims to bring this trend to our country, offering the best possible combination for all lovers of ‘Gin de Mahón’ who want to experiment and try new ways of tasting traditional flavours.
